One Day Trekking to Ramadevara Betta-Kyathsandra
As it turned out, I joined the weekend trek to Ramadevara Betta with Bangalore Trekking Club(BTC) on the second Sunday of this New Year. Ramadevara Betta is located in Kyathsandra, near Siddaganga Matha, around 60 Kms from Bangalore.
We started our journey to Kyathsandra on a train from Bangalore Junction, had an introductory game of dumb charades, and reached the Kyathsandra Railway station within next 2 hours. After having quick breakfast in a nearby restaurant we proceeded for the trek.
There is a regular trail which leads to the top of the hill, but we decided to explore a bit and find out an alternate and more adventurous route which could lead us to the top. Lead by Kamal and Jigeesha from BTC, we enthusiastically trekked along. This alternate route exploration proved to be bit of a challenge and we kept moving along the rocks, making our own way through the thorny bushes and difficult terrain. At many places we had to take each others help to climb up and crawled on to avoid thorns. Some of us did get minor scratches from the thorny plants. We also lost the way a couple of times and had to adjust our trail to be on the right path. Finally when we managed to reach the top of the hill, it was a hugely satisfying experience to say the least.
As they say, the best view comes after the hardest climb. The top of the hill had many rock formations and provided a beautiful view of the surrounding areas. There is a small pond at the top with many Lotus plants. We explored the hill for some time, took rest, shared lunch and clicked as many photographs as we could.
By this time our water reserves were all over. We then decided to descend and this time we took the regular trail which helped us get down quickly and continue towards the railway station.We were all dead thirsty and to our relief we came across a sugarcane juice shop and all of us happily gulped down the juice. We reached the railway station and had a final feedback of the trip.
Finally, we all took the train back to Bangalore with a great sense of satisfaction as the day was well spent on a wonderful trek.
